Richard (R.D.) Murphy was the oldest son of Cordelia O'Quin and H.M. Murphy, born 3 Aug 1867. In his later life, he wrote a short autobiography, describing the major events of his life - it makes for some VERY interesting reading. For instance, he and his younger brother were responsible for carrying the measles to the Hatfield children in West Virginia, of the infamous Hatfield-McCoy feud.
I highly recommend that you give it a read when you can. (The link is below.) My mother, Lily Tiller O'Quin, who knew R.D. while growing up, and as a young adult, believes that his daughter, Mary Presley, who taught typing at Council High School, typed the final version of the document for her father.
(FYI - the autobiography has also been uploaded to the Virginia GenWeb for posterity. The GenWeb version does NOT contain the hand-sketched log cabin which adorned the cover of the original document, however.)
